Okay. So I feel like 2024 was one of those years that either you did very well in as far as business or you're like I'm learning some lessons here, yeah, so I'm in the lessons part and so I really wanted to go through and just share a couple of things that I have decided at this point that I am just going to leave behind in 2024, and some of the things that I've learned from 2024 that I'm going to bring into the new year, and this is actually the first podcast episode that we are recording here in 2025. So, in case you're new here, on the Getting Over the Hump podcast, I'm Kenniqua, I am your host and I am a website designer and system strategist. I'm Kenniqua, I'm your host and I am a website designer and system strategist, and I love just helping talking systems and really going through and just helping entrepreneurs just stay motivated during their journey. So that's the space that we're in right now really helping you to be able to get through the ebbs and flows, through motivation and stories from other entrepreneurs just like yourself, strategies that really are going to help you to go ahead and move your business forward. If you are not following us on the podcast, go ahead and give us a listen to anywhere that you listen to podcasts.

Speaker 1: 1:12

I really want to go through and talk about the things that I just wanted to leave behind in 2024. And one of those things is going to be me not showing up on social media consistently. Okay, so I know how important social media is. I have been on YouTube for a while. I've been on YouTube for about five years but as far as social media goes, I hadn't really been that active on social media Like I would go through and I would post, maybe on Instagram. Maybe a good week for me is maybe twice. I did try to post a little bit in my stories before, but I hadn't really been really consistent with doing that. And so this year 2025, I really want to lean into that because I do understand how important it is to go through and build connections beyond just YouTube, because one thing about like with YouTube YouTube is perfect for, and podcasts they're perfect for long form content. They're perfect for going through and nurturing the, nurturing the audience. However, as far as those day to day connections, that's something that it's harder to do via podcast and via YouTube, where I'm just going through and I'm just posting one video or one podcast episode a week and so I really want to lean into this year being consistent on social media. And what that looks like for me is really using Instagram, because a lot of my ideal clients I feel like they are on Instagram. So I do want to lean into using Instagram At the end of 2024.

Speaker 1: 2:43

I was really heavy in threads. Threads has been my jam, so I do want to lean into using Instagram At the end of 2024,. I was really heavy in threads. Threads has been my jam. Like I have been able to go through and get clients off of threads. I've been able to go through. Like I have a content studio space and I've been able to go through and land and get people for our studio and for our networking events through threads. So threads if you're not on threads threads has been a way that I have been able to make some connections and get clients, and actually fairly quickly. So I'm going to continue to bring that portion the threads into 2024. But I have gone through and I have mapped out a whole game plan for how I'm going to be consistent on social media and so I will be sharing that in an upcoming episode to kind of give you the full breakdown or a video where I can actually show you my step-by-step of how I actually plan to go through and get that done. But the second thing that I'm going to leave in 2024 is going to be my YouTube channel, my YouTube channel that I've had for five years. I almost have 14,000 subscribers, but and I'm going to do a separate video on this as well too, like I said. But the reason why, well, let's just say this is, if you're watching this video, let's say you're watching this video I'm doing right now. You're, like you're likely, watching this video on my new YouTube channel. So welcome, I'm happy that you're here.

Speaker 1: 4:00

But, with that being said, is that being that last year, which reason why it tended out, to be perfectly honest, last year was a slower year for me. It was more so one of those years where it was a learning year. It was a year for me to go through and just reflect and to actually just kind of build skills. It wasn't a growth year, which I feel like every year doesn't have to be a growth year in business, like we all ideally want to grow. But there are some things that I feel like in the process and the ebbs and the blows of being an entrepreneur. There are just times that we're just not going to grow. We're just going to go through and kind of maintain, and part of the reason for that is because last year I made a major shift by shifting in my business and some offerings that I was doing in my business, and so therefore, I pretty much cut that that whole revenue stream out, and with me doing that on my YouTube channel, most people that were following me on my old YouTube channel they were from my old niche and the old service that I used to provide. So I went through and I took the liberty and I actually am recording that. So I went through and I took the liberty and I actually am recording that exact video today.

Speaker 1: 5:07

But I actually took the liberty to say you know what, instead of going through and fighting with the algorithm because I actually did all last year I posted new content for my new niche and I spent the time of doing that. But after trying to do that, I'm finding that it's still not working as far as with the new content. Basically, long story short, how the algorithm works on YouTube is that it also it is going to put newer channels newer channels, if you are looking to start YouTube, it's the perfect time to go through and start YouTube right, because YouTube is going through and pushing content and putting it in front of the right person. But with me having a channel that is five plus years old, youtube has enough data to be able to say hey, I think that your subscribers should be looking at your videos and we think we know what your videos are about. And then when YouTube I post a video and then they put it in front of my subscribers and they don't look at those videos, it's like, hey, well, maybe this video is just not good and with that not being the case, it's really like I switched niches and that video is no longer relevant for most of my subscribers. So instead of going through and continually to kind of go through and push through that, I just decided to say you know what I am and if I the algorithm, I'm like, you know what, I'm just going to start a brand new channel from zero. So I went through and I just made the decision to go through and pivot and just start all over.

Speaker 1: 6:31

So number three is going to be my lack of discipline in a lot of areas of my life. So this is going to be for fitness, this is going to be health, this is going to be finance. It's going to be in all the areas. I think that a lot of the times, the reason why we don't succeed in a particular area is just because, not because we don't know how to do it. We know how to do a lot of different things. I mean at this point, I know with myself, I would just say is that I have a lot of things already figured out right.

Speaker 1: 7:01

Of course, there's always things that we can learn and I am definitely a forever student, but there are certain things that I know that I need to do, like as far as fitness, I do know that I have to go through. I have to make sure I eat a certain amount of calories, are not above a certain amount of calories. I know that I need to drink plenty of water. I need to make sure I'm working out at a certain certain amount of time. So I know these things. But the reason why I haven't been successful in it and I did lose a little bit of weight last year, like 20 pounds, but not to my goal weight of what I was trying to do but the reason for that was because of lack of discipline, and so that I'm pushing aside and I finished it and started applying. It is the 12 week year and that book has been amazing. Let me tell you so, when I uh came into 2025, I had already read the book and I mapped out my 12 week plan, which I will be doing a separate podcast episode video for that to kind of really go over that. But that has helped me tremendously. When I tell you that I have gotten so much done in the first week of 2025, just because of that plan, it is amazing. Okay, so I'm going to go over that as well.

Speaker 1: 8:11

But lack of discipline, leaving that behind, I think it's going to be last minute planning, last minute planning. So I am a last minute planner. I am that person that is going to want to host an event or host whether it's virtual or whether or not is an in-person event, and I am going to do this at the last minute. And I think, a lot of times, not because, well, I'm a last minute planner, but I think another reason why, too, that I end up doing everything or not everything, but doing some of those things at the last minute, is because I base things which I am changing. So this is not this is why we're leaving this in 2024, but going through and basing things on the way that I feel. So I don't wanna go through and plan out too far in advance because I don't know how I'm gonna feel when it's like three months down the road.

Speaker 1: 9:01

Now again, I have gone through and my mindset around that has definitely changed. But that's the reason why I'm guessing that I like to do last minute planning because I want to know how I'm going to feel at that point. But this year I'm really like you know what, it doesn't matter what I feel. I'm going to make sure that I do it and see, I stick to my commitment. So if I have a commitment for something, I'm going to stick to it, but then if I don't feel like it, then it's like I got to stick to it, but then I just don't feel like it, right. And so this year I'm definitely going to make sure it doesn't matter how you feel, honey, it doesn't matter how you feel. You're going to pre-plan this.

Speaker 1: 9:36

So I have actually already gone through as far as like events that I'm hosting. Like I have a couple of workshops that are coming up specifically, I'm having our HoneyBook intensive. I have actually mapped out each. Our HoneyBook intensive is going to be. It's a one day program. It is it's something that we go through and we walk our clients through setting up their HoneyBook accounts in one day, and so, even with that, they go through, they do some pre work, they'll go through some course material and then we'll do all of this in one day and I plan on hosting this about four to six times a year. But, with that being said, as I have already gone through and I have mapped out for the whole year, each day I plan on going through and hosting the HoneyBook Attentives, and then I have a couple other like little workshops. I have already got that on the calendar. So we are already moving good swords, good good for 2025. All right.

Speaker 1: 10:25

So the next one thing I'm going to be taking or leaving, rather, in 2024, it's going to be not marketing my business enough. I think a lot of times that I know with myself and you can definitely let me know if you relate to this is that sometimes I feel like I just market my business too much, and I think the reason why I was feeling like that is because it's me right, I'm posting and, of course, I see every single post that I make, or I'm reading every single email that I sent, or I'm looking at every single piece of content, really, that I'm sending out, but, honestly, I'm really not marketing my business enough Like I will go through and market my business and this is very bad, and so this is why I'm changing this and leaving this behind in 2024. But I was really going through and marketing my business, let's say, like once every like two weeks, where I would actually in two weeks, that's even maybe even once every three weeks, where I was going through and actually making an actual offer, right, making an actual offer. And so, yeah, I'm going to go through and actually making an actual offer, right, making an actual offer. And so, yeah, I'm going to go through and leave, I'm going to leave myself behind in 2024 because those things are definitely just not serving me in my business any longer.

Speaker 1: 11:39

So there was a lot of different things that I did learn from 2024. I can't say that 2024 was just this horrible year, because it was not a horrible year. I did a lot of pivoting in my business last year, but not a lot, but I did do a major pivot in my business where, again, like I mentioned, that I went through and I closed something that was making me almost five figures a month. So I closed something very, very huge, and so the transition from that, I started to learn a lot of different things about myself the things that I could do, the things I couldn't do and the things that were the gaps that I was actually missing, that I didn't even recognize or realize that I was missing those things.

Speaker 1: 12:17

So, first of all, if you're listening to the podcast, if you're listening to wherever you're listening to your podcast, for, send me a text message. You can send me a text message from the show notes below and just let me know, too, what you are leaving behind in 2024. And then, if you're watching the video course on YouTube, just leave me a comment and just let me know what's one of the things that you're going to be leaving behind in 2024. All right, so what I'm taking with me okay, this is a good stuff, cause this is the stuff, that this is the stuff that we're going to, that that that's important is the things that I plan on going through and taking with me from 2024. And I'm going to bring it over to this year, because some of these things yeah, they, they were lessons learned.

Speaker 1: 12:55

So one of the lessons learned is going through and being able to and I don't want to even get too deep into this, but some of the things that I've learned is going through and learning how to, number one, appreciate the journey, so appreciate the things that I'm learning along the way, appreciate the ebbs and the flows, appreciate the missteps and the mishaps, and then also to, in that same type of realm of what I've learned is knowing how to navigate my way through business relationships as well as with brands, and not to get too deep into this, but just really understanding and making sure that I am aware that when I am going through and I am getting and having business relationships or people that I may call friends, that they appreciate me as much as I appreciate them, and that I make sure that, in a nutshell, not being taken advantage of by those types of relationships or brands, and that I am just fully aware of everything and all the work that I have to do and just being aware of those relationships. So I'm going to stop right there. That's all I want to say about that, but that's, that's one of the things that I learned coming in from 2024. So this is kind of a little bad story.

Speaker 1: 14:47

So I did read a book. So I read a book. I got a book. It's called Persuade for Good. Okay, persuade for Good, and sometimes people think that persuasion is a bad thing and it's not necessarily a bad thing when you are persuading for good, okay. So this is I was listening to a podcast or watching a podcast on on YouTube and I it was I think it was the one with Omar El-Takori, which I watch all of his podcast episodes, but he had these guests on. They were the sales girls, right, I think sales girls called Guy Culture and with that is that, and they wrote the book, the Persuade for Good.

Speaker 1: 15:22

And I was listening to this podcast and then I realized something about myself, like I said before, like kind of going through and realizing sometimes your missteps or the gaps that you have like in your business and within yourself. Because a lot of times, as entrepreneurs, what happens is, especially when you are like I'm an entrepreneur from I built I'm not saying on my own, but I didn't go to school for this Like I didn't go to official school, I didn't go to business school or anything like that. I don't have a degree in business, so I went through. I quit my nine to five call center job back in 2015. And I jumped into entrepreneurship and the things that I learned in now, or know now, are the things that I know from based off of experience. And so sometimes there are small gaps that we go through that we didn't realize necessarily that we have, and those are some of the things that started to show itself to me in 2024.

Speaker 1: 16:19

Just because me doing a pivot, I was then starting to be shown some of the gaps and I'm thankful for the gaps, because I'm thankful that I was able to not necessarily thankful for the gaps, but I'm thankful that I was able to recognize the gaps and realize that this is a flaw that you have and for you to go through and you need to find a solution to go through and fix this flaw. So when I was listening to their podcast or watching it on YouTube, I was looking at the sales girls and I forgot whatever they were talking about it with sales and I realized she had said something. One of them had said something. It's two ladies. Well, I forgot their names on top of my head right now, but they had said something and I'm like you know what? I don't have sales skills. I don't have sales skills. I need to go find sales skills and they were off in your book, which was Persuade for Good. It was just a smaller book, but when I say, this book changed the way that I did business towards the end of the year, when I realized Kenniqua, you do not have sales skills. I'm telling you, it's amazing. I am going to do a whole separate podcast episode or breakdown of what I learned from this particular book.

Speaker 1: 17:25

But you probably say how did you go through business, being in business for seven years and you don't have sales skills? That is a long story, but ultimately I never really had to sell anything. I just didn't Going through and a lot of times, with the videos that I had on YouTube, the products that I had, I had a lot of courses, a lot of digital products and they just sold themselves because I was on YouTube and I'm still on YouTube, you guys see me here, hey, but they really sold themselves. But when I shifted my business and I'm still on YouTube, you guys see me here, hey, but they really sell themselves. But when I shifted my business and I don't have any online courses at this point. I'm selling done for you services and I'm selling, of course, done with you services. But then I noticed that, hold on, my sales skills are not all the way there. Like I'm just going on here and I'm telling people everything that they I'm just telling I'm just going and showing it everything. Right, I don't have these sales skills. And so after reading the book, I realized I need to have sales skills and I do now have better sales skills and I'm still working on them Also too. So I told you guys that I did go through so something I'm bringing in when I started towards the end.

Speaker 1: 18:30

So I finally took a break of all these years. I finally took a break, a one week break. From Christmas to New Year's, I took a break, a one week break. I've never done that in my business before. You guys let me know if you guys take breaks during the holiday season. I never took a break during the holiday season. My whole seven years never took a break. So I finally took a one week break off and this was really good. I didn't do any work for the most part. I did read a book, which was the 12 week year, and I immediately started going through.

Speaker 1: 19:01

After reading that book, I came into this year 2025, and I wrote out a whole plan which I will go over and talk to you guys more about. But I went through and I created a whole plan. When I tell you, if you have not read this book, I highly encourage you to read this book. This book is a game changer for me. I can already, I'm already telling you, I can already see I am literally right now on week number two of my 12 week plan and I'm already telling you is a game changer. I can't wait to really go through and I'm going to do an overview for you guys. I'm going to show you guys my 12 week plan and then, at the end of the 12 weeks, I'm going to tell you guys and give you an update of how this book has really helped me, because then by 12 weeks, I would have completed everything. But I'm telling you it's a game changer. So definitely I had to pull that into 2025. Because that's going to be something that has been very much a game changer for me and as always. So what are we on? Like number nine?

Speaker 1: 19:57

So something I'm also bringing into 2025 is going to be my love of systems. So I absolutely love systems, systems and automation. I am a systems girly through and through, so every single year, I'm going to bring that with me. So all I want to do now is continue to go through and help other people to go through and get their systems together. And I think a lot of times people think that or might think that systems are these grand big things, and they're really not. You can do systems on just a piece of paper and a pen. Now, granted, I love software, so I'm going to encourage software. But systems of how you go through and prepare a mail, that's a system. That's a process. How you need to go through and mail plan, that's a system, right. And so I love going through and helping entrepreneurs specifically go through and put systems in place for their business to help manage their clients and manage their projects. So, of course, we're going to continue to bring that on in 2025.

Speaker 1: 20:54

And then the last thing is just going to be continue to be a forever student. I am always trying to figure it out. As far as what can I learn next? Where are my flaws? What are my flaws? I'm looking at this not because of trying to go through and trying to be perfect Nobody is perfect. I can't be perfect, that's it right but there are things and there's resources out there that can really go through and I know that can help me to be able to really move myself forward as not just a person, but move myself forward in business, as a mom, as a wife right. These type of things can help me to be able to move myself further and well forward, right, and so that is really what I want to go through and I want to focus on, like even in my 12 week plan.

Speaker 1: 21:44

My 12 week plan is not just about just my business plan, right, it's not just about my business. My 12 week plan is also about how can I go through and be a better wife, how can I go through and be a better mom, a better friend, a better daughter, a better sister, like how can I go through and how can I better myself in those particular areas? Because this year 2025, and I'm seeing these posts, like on threads where people are going through and they're asking, hey, where are my 85 babies? At Right, 85 babies and I'm like, oh Lord, it's our time, the 85 babies, and so, yeah, I'm an 85 baby, so this year I will be turning 40, this year, and even that is like something like I'm like, okay, I'm about to be 40 years old, but that also really just changed my perspective about what I'm learning, what I'm doing, what I'm doing in life.

Speaker 1: 22:33

Who exactly am I helping? And even it boils down to even like the videos and content that I wanted to start creating, this me changing over, even with the YouTube channel, because now it's like YouTube is this place where I can go through and not only be able to connect with you and be able to support you in your life and your journey and we can really go through and make it through the ebbs and flows together. But then also, too, I have kids right, I have. I have a really young child no, not really young, but seven and then I also have a child and children that are going to be 18. And one I have a stepdaughter that is 18. And so now I want to be able to go through and create videos where they can go back and look and say, okay, she just ain't do tips and tutorials that don't apply to me, but that they can go through and they can pull out some things of life advice from some of the content and videos that I go through and create.

Speaker 1: 23:29

So just let me know what are you bringing into 2024? What have you left behind and what are you bringing with you in 2024? So, if you get, if you listen on the podcast, send me a text. Okay, send me a text and I will respond back. Okay, I will respond back and this is how I respond. Right, I will respond back either on thread to follow me on threads or I will respond back and this is how I respond. Right, I will respond back either on threads so follow me on threads or I will respond back in another podcast episode where I'm going to be mentioning some of the comments that I'm getting and some of the text messages that I'm getting as well. If you are not already subscribed, go ahead and subscribe. So until next time, keep learning and keep growing. Bye, bye for now.
